The ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority) was established in March 2000 to promote and facilitate the delivery of education, training and development in order to enhance the skills profile of the ETD (Education, Training and Development) sector and contribute to the creation of employment opportunities especially for those previously disadvantaged.
The ETDP SETA has two Chambers, the Budget Chamber and the Levy Chamber. The Department of Education (DoE), through its national office and nine provincial departments is a member of the Budget Chamber. In addition all public early childhood development (ECD) centres, public schools (primary, secondary and combined schools), public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges and public Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) centres are members of this chamber.
The Levy chamber is made up of 11 constituencies, ECD, public FET as employers, public Higher Education Institutions, public schools governing bodies (SGB) as employers, independent schools, libraries and archives, research organisations, political parties as employers, trade unions as employers, and Non Governmental Organisations and Community Based Organisations.
The ETDP SETA advocates high quality life-long learning and is committed to the alleviation of unemployment and poverty. Since inception of the National Skills Development Strategy II [NSDS II], the ETDP SETA has facilitated skills development programmes for over 19 000 workers and 9 500 unemployed people across the country. Over 28 000 learners have benefited from the ETDP SETA's learnership, skills programme, bursary, and internship programmes.
The ETDP SETA has further aligned all its programmes and initiatives to the NSDS II, Provincial Skills Development Strategies, and the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA), in particular to the Joint Initiative for Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA), ensuring that the ETDP SETA responds to national skills priorities.
